EngD Project Title: Advancing Floating LiDAR and Multi-Use Offshore Applications
Industry Partner: Partrac Ltd
Educational & Professional Background:
I graduated with a BEng in Mechatronic Engineering from the University of Manchester. While I enjoyed learning about the robotics and mechatronics aspects, I found myself particularly drawn to the electrical and renewable energy side. During my degree, I became increasingly interested in how engineering can be applied to develop sustainable energy systems and support the transition to net zero.
What attracted you to studying with IDCORE?
I was interested in IDCORE because it offers a combination of academic research and industry experience, unlike a traditional PhD, allowing me to gain both technical expertise and industry insight. What also attracted me to IDCORE was the opportunity to learn about the different aspects of offshore renewable energy, such as technology development, environmental impact, policy, economics, and many more.
What attracted you to the renewable energy sector?
I was drawn to the renewable energy sector because it allows engineers to work towards solutions that benefit both society and the environment. Contributing to technologies that help create a more sustainable energy system is highly motivating.
What aspect of the industry do you find the most inspiring, interesting or important for the future?
The most inspiring aspect of the industry is its potential to significantly reduce global carbon emissions while protecting the environment. I am particularly interested in contributing to the development of future technologies that will provide clean energy, minimise environmental impact, and still meet growing energy demand.
What ambition would you like to fulfil as a research engineer?
As a research engineer, I hope to contribute to the development of innovative renewable energy technologies that are efficient, scalable, and environmentally responsible. My ambition is to support the transition to a low carbon energy system by helping bring new research and technologies into real world implementation.
